A comment about the Tactics soundtrack that I heard pretty early into the creation process is that it does not translate easily into jazz. So, naturally, it was challenge accepted. Although I would maintain that the mixed meter madness that you hear doesn't fit neatly into any of the pre-existing jazz labels, the piece touches on a variety of different influences (including, of all things, marching band) and flows between them with a kind of freedom not unlike that one would find in bebop, fusion, and other forms of jazz. Also, as far as random battle themes go, the original source is beautiful!
