“Clouds and Starlight” is a lullaby, and, as a trumpet and horn player, I know that nothing is more soothing than a brass ensemble. Influenced by a childhood spent listening to ensembles like the Canadian Brass, I felt that a brass quintet would hit the mark, having both the intimacy and warmth of chamber music, and the fullness and grandeur that combination of timbres can provide. To further augment the color of the ensemble, the second trumpet plays the majority of his part on flugelhorn, lending some additional darkness and warmth. Daniel Romberger and Alex Hill join me on Trombone and Tuba respectively to bring “Clouds and Starlight” to life.
