The sparse texture of the original "Desert Wasteland" track was a fascinating challenge. Immediately we realized that a direct transcription would have left a lot of creativity to be desired, especially since any number of pianos would still lack the quality of sound made possible with the original instruments, and therefore the eerie yet devastatingly lonely atmosphere would also be lost. Instead, we opted for an interpretation based almost solely on emotion, specifically, the sorrow and despair of one trapped within the harshness and cruelty of the desert and its infamous prison. Using the inherent tragic qualities of the original track, it became simple to include many heart-wrenching harmonies within the adaptation, and then to take advantage of the rich contrapuntal texture made possible with two pianos for an intensely expressive display. In a bit of tongue-in-cheek pretension, and in keeping with the game's aesthetic, we chose the Latin translation of "Corel Prison" for the track title. It's certainly quite a departure from the original, inspiring track's title of "Desert Wasteland", but hopefully a choice that will intrigue and fascinate listeners as much as the music intrigued and fascinated us to write it!
